Aveen Burney started volunteering for FESF North America in 2016. She was inspired by the story of Richard Geary and his journey to help deaf kids’ education in Pakistan. Over time, she learned in depth the positive impact of FESF and became an avid advocate of FESF Deaf Reach as a Youth Ambassador for her friends and community. She believes in equal education opportunities for every child.
Aveen currently studies at Buckley Country Day School in Roslyn, New York. Her favorite sports are squash and soccer. Her favorite food is pasta and her favorite color is blue.
When we view the deaf community not as a disability group, but as a minority culture that speaks just another language (sign language), our perception changes. It is only then you realize that to succeed, the deaf simply need empowerment through opportunity,
the same opportunity you and I get.
